Montfroid is an awesome point of view over the whole Vanoise mountain range, the upper Arc valley and the area around the Col du Mont-Cenis. Due to its strategic position, a defensive fortress was built by the French on the summit of Montfroid, in order to control the border with Italy during the WWII.
This panorama is taken from the west end of the long ridge that makes up the Montfroid summit. The ancient fortress still stands at the opposite east top.
